S117 Meeting - 17.02.1995
-
Attendance:
The meeting was part of the regular kp3 meeting on Friday
-
Topics / Questions:
-
1. Preamps for Catania hodoscope:
Discussion wether all preamps should be replaced by new ones from Milano which
have a much longer decay time.
-
2. Main amplifiers for the hodoscopes :
The Zero-Crossing used a different shaping time than the leading edge in the
test run but why?
-
3. Start and Halo:
The scintillator of the Halo should be much thinner and read out by
photomultipliers. One should think about a bigger frame in y direction for the
start foils.
-
4. Delta electrons :
A magnet at the target which focusses the delta electrons in forward direction
should be helpful because the energy spectrum of the deltas is forward peaked
and this effect will be enhanced. To circumvent problems with the ZDO one could
have a brass foil in front of it.
-
5. TOF - Jopl:
The following questions came up during the test:
- Problems with beam intensity in the neigbour slats of the hole -> Should
the hole in the Tof bigger? Is it possible to have the beam focus on the Tof
rather than to have it on the start foil?
- Saturation of the Jopl photomultipliers: Should the scintillator be smaller
so that the overlap between Tof and Jopl is smaller and not so many stopped
particles are in the Jopl?
- The temperature in the central 8packs was above 40 degrees. Is the cooling
power too low or the heat capacitance of the cooling pipes or the alcohol not
sufficient.
-
6. Telescopes:
The gain has to be adjusted so that heavier fragments can be seen. The
Telescopes need an individual trigger.
-
7. ZDO:
A cosmics run should be done with the ZDO. The tubes of the low gain channels
have to be checked. The high detector multiplicity is not clear.
-
8. DAQ:
The possibillity of writing on local tapes is a MUST!!!. Some ADCs/TDCS in both
FASTBUS crates did not work properly an have to be tested.
