• June 27th, 1994
  
  • The AXP Cluster was upgraded to VMS Version 6.1 and Motif Version 1.2.
  • The KP1/KP3 Laser printer was upgraded from an LN03R to a Printserver 17/600. The print command changed:

    	PP C   -->   PS E 

    Note, that the old command PP C now activates a printer in the Ship area in the UNILAC experimental hall.
    Note also, that the new printer is capable of double sided printing (e.g. PS E POSTD ...) and that there is an additional laser printer of the same type in the printer room 2.223 which can be accessed with PS G.

  • Installed MOPER ALADIN, an interface which allows unpriviledged users certain system actions.

• May 30th, 1994
  
  • The connection between the MVS system and the nodes VSBZ and AXP612 is now routed over a faster path (BMX channel via RZRI6F).
  • Reorganized LOGIN_ALADIN.COM:
    There is now a common version in the ASOFT CMS library. The procedure kp3$root:[aladin]login_aladin is now just a stub calling the procedure in ref_asoft:.
    Note:Your login procedure login.com stays unchanged and calls kp3$root:[aladin]login_aladin as before. Keep in mind that ref_asoft is defined in login_aladin, so you can't execute @ref_asoft:login_aladin in your login.com !

    Added new functionality:

    • New logical name: KPW_ROOT - The WWW file system
    • All POOL and TEMP disks are now visible on VAX and AXP systems.
    • Add new symbols: VPATH_VAX,VPATH_AXP
    • Move call of [caveb]cms_defs from [aladin]cms_defs to login_aladin

    A lot of obsolete stuff has been removed from login_aladin:

    • Remove logical names LMD_POOL, B_POOL0, B_POOL1, AO_POOL0, BZ_PROD0, CE_PROD0
    • Remove logical name ESOPACK
    • Remove symbol HOST_OS9
    • Remove symbols PAW_S031, PAW_S031_X11, PAW_S022, PAW_S114, PAW_BEAM, PAW_BEAM_X11
    • Remove call to KP3$ROOT:[ALADIN]LOGIN_TDAS

  • A large number of MVS datasets has been removed from the TapeRobot and can thus not be accessed during non-operator hours. These datasets have the attribute HSMOPR in a MVS files listing.
    There is not enough space in the TapeRobot to reload all those tapes immediately! Night time and weekend accesses might fail!
  • The reference copy area REF_ASOFT was moved.

• May 25th, 1994
  
  • All reference copies of CMS libraries on the AXP's got redone from scratch. The files had fixed file ownership due to a bug in the distribution procedure. All files on AXP were deleted, everything got redistributed and rebuild.
  • The Daily Logfile Browser hold now a complete log of the nightmare of cleanup, distribution, disk and CMS checking and partial backup taking.

• May 24th, 1994
  
  • The VAX disks got cleaned up: Unused quotas, obsolete system stuff, the local copy of PAWSHR, ect., in short the left overs of 2 years got removed. The daily system check and cleanup got restructured, the outputs can now be checked in the Daily Logfile Browser.

• May 19th, 1994
  
  • There is a new cleanup algorithm for the TEMP disks (BZ_TEMP0, CE_TEMP0, AL_TEMP0). The logfiles can be browsed with the new Daily Logfile Browser.

• May 18th, 1994
  
  • The protections and command authorizations on the CMS libraries ASOFT, ALIB and S114 have been modified. Access is now granted to holders of the ALADINSOFT identifier.

• May 13th, 1994
  
  • The KP3$BROOT disk on the VAX cluster ran out of file headers on friday, May 13th(!). We had a little more than 53200 files on this disk!. The directories of inactive users were purged. The following accounts were discontinued and backedup on the VAX cluster:

  • The AL_TEMP0 scratch disk on the AXP cluster has now an automatic cleanup like BZ_TEMP0. The free space target is 2500000 blocks.

• May 5th, 1994
  
  • The files dst_s114:[*...] were moved from VAX to AXP.
    The logical name dst_s114 on VAX systems points now to the AXP file system, so files are still available on VAX'es but access will be slower.
  • Created the root device al_prod0:.
    This concealed device will be used for PASS1 data processing. It shares a physical disk with al_temp0. The file owner is ALADINPROD and not ALADIN. This effectively partitions the disk into two sections, one for temporary files and one for PASS* production. The quotas are adjusted such that the PASS* production jobs have always adequate disk space.
  • Prepared PASS1: there are new areas
    dst_s114:[pass1] - for COM, LOG ect. files
    al_prod0:[pass1] - for temporary file
